Firmer skin around the eyes, built from your own collagen

SmoothEye is a non-ablative laser treatment for the delicate skin around the eyes. Gentle, controlled warmth prompts that skin to firm and rebuild its own collagen. Nothing is added to the face; what improves is the skin you already have.

The treatment

Start with the skin

SmoothEye treats the eye area itself: the skin above, below and to the side of the eyes, and across the upper and lower eyelids. It is a non-ablative laser treatment, tightening skin that has loosened, softening fine lines, and easing the crepey texture that settles around the eyes over the years.

It does this with a Fotona Er:YAG laser, used in what Fotona calls SMOOTH mode: a precisely controlled delivery of warmth into the skin. Because it is non-ablative, the skin's surface stays intact. There are no needles and no incisions; the treatment acts in the layers beneath.

How it works

Why the eye area ages differently

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the face, and the most exposed. It has little of the oil-gland support that keeps the rest of the face cushioned, and it never rests: every blink and every expression moves it, many thousands of times a day. So the eye area is usually the first place the slow loss of structure becomes visible, as fine lines, a crepey texture, and a softening of what was once a firm contour.

SMOOTH mode treats that loss at its source. The laser delivers its energy as a sequence of sub-second pulses, each one adding a little warmth without letting heat build at the surface. The result is even, controlled heating a fraction of a millimetre down, in the layer of the skin where collagen is held.

Warmth at that depth prompts the skin to do two things: to remodel the collagen it already has, and to begin making new collagen of its own, a process called neocollagenesis. Across a course of sessions, the skin around the eyes firms and smooths because it has rebuilt its own structure. Nothing is placed in the face.

The improvement is the skin's own.

What it treats

What SmoothEye is for

Around the eyes, ageing settles into the skin: fine lines and crow's feet, crepiness across the eyelids, and skin that has loosened over the upper and lower lids. All of these are concerns of the skin's quality and structure, and that is what SmoothEye treats.

SmoothEye treats them by improving the skin itself, rather than relaxing a muscle or adding volume. That is what makes its result a natural one: nothing is added to your face, and nothing about it is altered; the skin is simply in better condition. You look rested, and you still look like yourself.

Even where the eyelid skin has loosened and grown heavy, SmoothEye is a genuine option, and a good one. It works without surgery and at a natural pace: the change comes gradually, session by session, so the eye area looks progressively fresher rather than suddenly different. For many people that is the appeal of it: a real, visible result, reached at a pace that asks very little of ordinary life.

VectorLift, for the brow and upper lid

For some people, the concern reaches a little higher. The brow has lost some of its height, or the upper eyelid has grown heavy, as the skin above the eye loosens. Here Pink extends the same non-ablative SMOOTH-mode approach upward, in a treatment Fotona calls VectorLift, to lift the outer brow and tighten the skin of the upper eyelid. Whether you have the eye area treated on its own or take in the brow and upper lid is your choice, and you can select and book either online. A consultation is there if you would like a clinician's guidance first, but it is not a step you have to wait for.

What to expect

The session, and what follows

A session is mostly preparation. The eye area is numbed first, which takes thirty to forty minutes; the SmoothEye treatment itself is short, usually ten to fifteen minutes. With the numbing done, the laser feels like little more than warmth passing over the skin.

Most people have some redness in the treated area on the day, which settles over the first day or two. After that, SmoothEye asks for a little patience: the skin around the eyes moves through a phase of renewal, and around days four to six the eyelids can look crepey, and worse, before they recover. By day five to seven the eye area has calmed and tightened, though the exact timing varies from person to person. It helps to know the shape of this going in: the brief rough patch is not a setback but the skin renewing itself.

The recovery is real, but it is visible mostly to you: in most cases, nobody else will know you have had anything done. Your clinician guides you through the aftercare, and the clinic helps you time your sessions around your social calendar and the events that matter to you.

SmoothEye is done as a course rather than in a single visit. Most plans run to four to six sessions, three to six weeks apart, with the exact number and spacing decided by your clinician to suit your skin. Because the treatment prompts the skin to build collagen of its own, the result develops steadily across the course, and goes on improving for a time after the final session as the new collagen matures.

Why Pink

Why Pink for SmoothEye

The skin around the eyes is delicate, and treating it well asks for an experienced hand. At Pink, SmoothEye is in the hands of two senior clinicians, Porsha and Stephy, who lead the clinic's anti-ageing practice. They examine the skin and set the plan themselves, and they are the ones who carry it out. You can meet them on the clinicians page.

SmoothEye also suits every skin type. Pink calibrates the treatment for the tone and condition of each person's skin, and holds every Fitzpatrick type to a single standard of care.

Six tones, one standard.

Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

Does SmoothEye hurt? +
The eye area is numbed for thirty to forty minutes before the treatment begins, so most people feel little more than a sense of warmth as the laser passes over the skin. The treatment itself is short, usually ten to fifteen minutes.
Is it safe to treat so close to the eyes? +
SmoothEye is designed specifically for the skin of the periocular region, and it is non-ablative and precisely controlled. At Pink it is carried out by senior clinicians experienced in treating the delicate skin around the eyes. Any concern is worth raising at your consultation.
Is there any downtime? +
There is a short recovery. SmoothEye is non-ablative, so there is no wound, but the skin around the eyes goes through a few days of renewal: some redness on the day, and a phase around days four to six when the eyelid skin can look crepey, and worse, before it settles. Most people are recovered by day five to seven, and it shows far more to you than to anyone else.
How many sessions will I need? +
Most plans run to four to six sessions, three to six weeks apart. The exact number and the spacing are decided by your clinician, to suit your skin.
Is SmoothEye safe for darker skin? +
Yes. The non-ablative SMOOTH mode suits every skin type, and Pink calibrates the treatment to the tone and condition of each person's skin, to one standard of care.
Will SmoothEye get rid of under-eye bags or dark circles? +
It depends on the cause. SmoothEye improves the skin itself: its texture, its resilience and the fine lines it holds. Where under-eye puffiness or shadowing comes from loose, crepey skin, SmoothEye can soften it. Where the darkness is pigment, or the puffiness a true pad of fat, that is a different concern, and your clinician will tell you honestly whether SmoothEye is the right treatment.
What is the difference between the two treatment options? +
SmoothEye on its own treats the eye area, the skin above, below and to the side of the eyes. The fuller option, eye, brow and upper lid, adds VectorLift, which lifts the outer brow and tightens the upper-eyelid skin. You can choose either when you book, and a consultation can help if you are not sure which suits you.
How soon will I see results? +
SmoothEye works gradually. It prompts the skin to build collagen of its own, over the weeks between sessions and the months that follow, so the result develops steadily across the course rather than appearing at once.
How long do the results last? +
The collagen the skin builds is its own, and the improvement holds well, but ageing does continue. Many people return for an occasional session once their course is complete, to keep the eye area where they want it; your clinician can advise on timing.
