How Our Skin Lightening and Brightening Treatment Works
If you have been researching skin lightening and brightening treatment in Melbourne, you have probably noticed something. Most clinics offer surface-level peels or generic laser sessions and hope for the best. That is not how we work at Pink Laser Clinics.
We developed our Signature Body Lightening and Brightening protocol in 2020. At the time, very few clinics in Australia were offering dedicated body lightening as a structured programme. Today, clients travel from interstate and regional Victoria specifically for this treatment. It is what we specialise in, and our results reflect that.
This guide explains exactly how our protocol works, what is involved at each stage, and what realistic results look like.
What Is the Difference Between Skin Lightening and Brightening?
These terms are used interchangeably online, but they describe different things.
Skin brightening improves overall clarity and radiance. It lifts dullness and evens out general tone. Most chemical peels and vitamin C serums fall into this category.
Skin lightening targets specific areas of excess pigmentation. This includes darkened underarms, inner thighs, intimate areas, knees, elbows, or post-inflammatory marks. You need to break down existing melanin deposits, not just brighten the surface.
Our protocol addresses both. We combine advanced laser technology to target deep pigmentation with surface renewal and long-term skin health support.
Why Body Pigmentation Happens and Keeps Coming Back
One of the most common frustrations we hear from new clients is this: "I have tried creams, peels, even laser elsewhere — and the pigmentation just comes back."
That usually happens because the underlying cause was not addressed. Body pigmentation is typically triggered by:
- Friction and irritation — tight clothing, skin-on-skin contact, regular shaving or waxing.
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — darkening that follows inflammation, ingrown hairs, or skin trauma.
- Hormonal changes — pregnancy, contraceptives, and hormonal fluctuations that increase melanin production.
- Genetics — some skin types are prone to pigment accumulation in high-friction zones.
- Sun exposure — UV stimulates melanocytes, worsening existing pigmentation.
A single peel or generic cream rarely delivers lasting results. Real skin lightening and brightening needs a structured plan. One that targets the pigment, supports renewal, and addresses the root cause.
How Our Skin Lightening and Brightening Protocol Works
Our Signature protocol has three phases. It combines medical-grade laser technology, clinical treatments, and a targeted home care plan using Pink Skin Care products.
Phase 1: Skin Preparation (2+ Weeks Before First Session)
Before your first laser session, we prescribe a home care prep kit. This conditions the skin and begins slowing excess melanin production.
If there is active hair growth in the treatment area, we recommend completing laser hair removal first. This lets the lightening laser target pigment directly. It also removes the friction and ingrown hairs that cause darkening.
Phase 2: Active Laser Treatment
The core of our protocol uses Fotona's medical-grade Q-Switched laser. It delivers short pulses of light energy that pass through the skin surface without damaging it. This energy targets melanin directly.
The laser shatters the melanin into tiny particles. Your body then clears those fragments naturally over the following weeks. Each session breaks down more pigment. This is why results build over time.
Depending on the area and severity, your plan may also include:
- Erbium Laser Micro Peels — precision resurfacing to refine texture and fade surface irregularities.
- Pink Signature Pigment Peels — clinical-grade peels that accelerate pigment clearance.
- FracRevive™ Laser Skin Needling — fractional laser stimulating collagen renewal and skin clarity.
- Hollywood Laser Carbon Peel — deep cleansing and toning for thickened or congested skin.
The combination, sequence, and intensity are determined at your consultation. They are adjusted throughout based on your skin's response.
Phase 3: Home Care Between Sessions
What you do between appointments matters as much as what we do in clinic. Our protocol includes prescribed Pink Skin Care clinical body serums. These inhibit melanin production, support barrier recovery, and maintain healthy cell turnover.
Body Bright is central to our skin lightening and brightening home care. It is formulated with Kojic Acid, Licorice Extract, and Niacinamide. These active ingredients suppress melanin activity and gradually fade discolouration between sessions. Safe for all skin types including intimate areas.

Post-treatment recovery is supported by our Recovery Gel, which calms, hydrates, and protects the skin barrier while the treated area heals.
How Many Sessions Does Skin Lightening and Brightening Take?
This depends on the area, depth of pigmentation, your skin type, and home care consistency.
As a general guide: the bare minimum is 3 sessions. Most clients need between 6 and 12 sessions. Spacing varies by body area and is assessed at your in-person consultation.
Clients often notice improved clarity and smoother texture in the first few sessions. Visible lightening becomes more apparent as the programme progresses. The strongest results typically appear in the second half of the plan.
What Areas Can Be Treated?
Our skin lightening and brightening treatment is suitable from head to toe. The most commonly treated areas are:
- Underarms — darkening from shaving, friction, deodorant, and hormonal changes.
- Intimate areas (Brazilian, bikini) — pigmentation from friction, waxing, or hormonal factors.
- Inner thighs — skin-on-skin friction and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
- Buttocks — textural issues and uneven tone.
- Knees and elbows — naturally thicker, darker skin.
- Full back — sun damage, post-inflammatory pigmentation, and texture.
All treatments are performed at our Doncaster clinic. They are suitable for all skin types, including darker complexions.
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
We always begin with a complimentary in-person consultation to assess:
- The type and depth of your pigmentation.
- Your skin type and tone.
- The likely cause (friction, hormonal, sun damage, or post-inflammatory).
- Whether laser hair removal should be completed first.
- Your home care history and any previous treatments.
From there, we design a personalised treatment plan. We work as a team throughout your programme. Every session is monitored and adjusted based on your progress.
