A tinny tickle. On the trampoline. With the kids.
That is sometimes the first time. A woman in her thirties, jumping with her children for the third afternoon in a row, feels something her body has not done before. Or has not done in this exact way. The smallest leak. So small she might not name it as one. A tickle, she calls it later, when she is trying to describe it to herself. The kind of thing she tells nobody.
I'm here already?
That is the second thought, hours after the first. I'm here already meaning · this is a thing women in their fifties talk about. This is the conversation older women have, occasionally, in lowered voices. She is in her thirties. She thought she had longer.
She does not have longer, because the body's interior is not on the same clock as the face.
The body that ages first
The face ages visibly. The body's interior ages sooner, and quietly. Pelvic floor, core, abdominal wall, the muscles that hold a woman upright through years of bracing. None of them announce themselves the way a line on the forehead announces itself. They report in by withdrawal of function. The thing that used to work, working less. The thing that used to be effortless, asking for thought.
After pregnancy, the work the body has been doing is enormous. The abdominal wall stretches across nine months. The pelvic floor stretches under birth. The core holds a baby that grows into a toddler that asks to be carried. Through all of it the body is recovering on a calendar nobody published. Some women regain function easily. Many do not. Stress incontinence on the trampoline at thirty-four does not mean she did anything wrong. It means the work the body did between her late twenties and now has not yet been answered with the work that puts it back.
The face has the autumn mirror. The body has the trampoline.
The patient who already knows
The woman who walks into this room is not arriving uninformed. She has done the reading on women's health. She has read the books with the long subtitles about postpartum recovery, about the pelvic floor, about why women carry pain into their forties that nobody warned them about. She has decided that what happens to her body across the next thirty years matters as much as what happens to her face. She is the StarFormer patient. She is different.
The StarFormer patient treats the ageing of her body the way most women treat the ageing of their face.
She is also, almost universally, comfortable with her body. The patients who walk through this door for this treatment are confident. They embrace the reality of being female · the bodies that have carried, the bodies that have changed, the bodies that ask for attention. They are as young as twenty-nine and as old as their late sixties. They feel what they feel, they decide they need a bit of help, and they come for it. We have never had to encourage anyone to walk in. The StarFormer patient arrives on her own.
She has already had the conversation with herself. She has already decided she is not waiting until she is sixty to address what she is feeling at thirty-four. The work she has come for is not vanity work. It is structural. Strength. The thing the body asks for after the body has carried.
What gets stronger
The StarFormer is the device used for muscle work the patient cannot easily reach on her own. Abs. Glutes. Core. The pelvic floor in particular, because the pelvic floor is one of the most consequential and most under-trained muscle groups a woman has, and most patients cannot effectively engage it through conscious effort. Electromagnetic stimulation reaches the muscle in a way her own contractions cannot. The muscles fire. The strength returns over a course of sessions. Not in one visit. Not in two.
This is not a quick procedure. The StarFormer is a series. The body builds strength the way the body has always built strength · through repeated effort, on a schedule. Magnetic energy devices that strengthen the pelvic floor give you more than can ever be done at the gym.
Like everything in this issue · like the face's autumn arc, like the laser plan that begins before the laser session, like the body's pigmentation course that begins with conditioning · the StarFormer work begins with the body where it is, and asks for the patience the body asks for. Slowly, carefully, on its own schedule.
What she does not have to keep doing
She does not have to keep avoiding the trampoline. She does not have to keep crossing her legs when she sneezes. She does not have to keep wondering, on her morning run, whether the second mile is going to be the one she pays for. She does not have to manage her pelvic floor for the rest of her life as a quiet logistical problem.
The work returns function. Not all the way to her body before pregnancy · the body has changed, and pretending it has not is the marketing of devices that do not deliver what they promise. But close enough that the trampoline becomes a trampoline again. Close enough that the morning run is a morning run. Close enough that her body is not, in the back of her mind, a thing she has to keep an eye on.
The strength that is also inside
It is an internal strength, literally.
Internal strength. The phrase does double work. The muscles the StarFormer reaches are physically internal · pelvic floor, deep core, the layers a woman cannot see in the mirror. They are also internal in the other sense. Confidence in her own body. The quiet that comes when she has stopped being slightly afraid of her body's small failures.
That is the transformation the StarFormer patient comes for. Not a thinner waist. Not a smaller measurement. The capacity to carry her body forward through the next decades without the small daily withdrawals that, ungiven attention, become large daily withdrawals.
What the consultation is for
She walks in often a little earlier than she expected to walk in. She walks in saying, in some form, I thought I had longer. The consultation is the conversation that begins to give her body back the strength it has been quietly losing. The patient who knows what she is asking for is the easier patient to plan with. She has already decided.
She is not too young to be here. She is here because she paid attention earlier than most.
